Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici:
”Good evening!
I would like to tell you a few words about the visit that took place in Brussels this week.
The purpose of this visit was the participation in the first meeting of the Moldova - European Union Association Council, during which we discussed the achievements so far, as well as the debts that we still have. We also referred to the next steps that the government will take in carrying out its commitments assumed in the Association Agreement.
I have also had more meetings with senior officials, including European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Luxembourgian Prime Minister Xavier Bettel. I had a meeting with our Diaspora at the Moldovan Embassy in Brussels. On the last day, I attended the European People's Party summit.
During the meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker I received a message of confidence. It was a very warm discussion, the European commission president encouraging us to follow the European vector together. At the meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, we agreed to deepen our cooperation, especially in the national security sector. At the same time, I invited him to pay us a visit in the near future and we showed our willingness to inaugurate a NATO office in Chisinau.
The dialogue with the prime minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, focused on the topic of assistance in the financial and banking sector. We know that Luxembourg is one of the leaders in this field. He promised us that he would delegate an expert in this field, to train specialists from our country.
Our meeting with the Moldovan Diaspora was very pleasant and warm. We talked about the problems they were facing, joint projects that could be supported by the Moldovan government. We have very good people, willing to help the country. I encouraged them to stand by our side, support us, promote our country abroad, but at the same time to promote European values in Moldova.
In the end, I would like to make more references to the summit of the European People's Party, which I attended along with several heads of state and government from the member states of the European Union. The topics of discussions were the Energy Union, the crisis in Greece, as well as the situation in Ukraine. We also discussed the actions to be taken until the Eastern Partnership Summit held in Riga in May. During this summit I had talks with Angela Merkel, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy and former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili. We tackled the Association Agreement and the priorities of Moldova for this period.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this visit and I think that it was productive. It was a visit that will give us results in the near future. "
