Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - ”Moldova more than ever needs turning the Chisinau political class more responsible, in order to speed up reforms and continue the European integration,” MEPs have said at recent meetings with Moldovan journalists in Brussels.

Moldovan media representatives met MEPs managing Moldova’s file, a rapporteur for Moldova at the European Parliament Petras Austrevicius, the head of the Parliamentary Committee on Association with Moldova, Andi Cristea, and Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament, Deputy Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, member of the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee Ioan Mircea Pașcu.

Petras Austrevicius suggested that ”Moldova has no future if it does not make the necessary reforms”. He urged the Moldovan authorities to speed up the fight against corruption and enhance actions to reform the justice and financial sectors,”so that the European money not be stolen, but invested."

Petras Austrevicius advised the Moldovan decision-makers to fully use the potential of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, so that the Moldovan producers benefit from all opportunities of the European market.

Referring to the Transnistrian issue, Austrevicius said ”there is no quick solution for this frozen conflict”. At the same time, Petras Austrevicius added ”this is not a problem only of Moldova, but also of EU and is even a global one."

Ioan Mircea Pascu also spoke about the Transnistrian conflict and highlighted that ”at present, Crimea shadows the military value of Transnistria," Pascu added. ”Moldova’s single possibility to remain independent is to stay anchored in the EU integration process," Ioan Mircea Pascu stressed.

For his part, Andi Cristea said that Moldova must fasten the implementation of the EU Association agenda, so that this rapprochement not be stopped. ”It is essential that the Moldovan government and political class should be very responsible,” Cristea said. He added ”the fact that Moldova has not been sanctioned so far for failing to honour its obligations towards EU does not mean that it will not be sanctioned”. ”I want very much the European funds meant for Moldova, via the European Neighbourhood Instrument, not to be reduced,” Andi Cristea said.
