Moldovan parliament speaker seeks Romanian investments in strategic sectors for Moldova

Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan and Romanian parliaments will foster cooperation to facilitate the implementation of the European Union acquis and transfer of expertise in Moldova’s European integration process.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Romanian President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament Valeriu Stefan Zgonea discussed the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between the two parliaments today in Bucharest, at a joint meeting with Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
According to the parliament speaker, signing the memorandum will contribute to the development of cooperation between the two parliaments, taking into account the priorities and responsibilities of the Moldovan parliament in the European integration process. "The Romanian parliament has shown great support for Moldova's European integration path, by providing support for capacity building for Chisinau-based parliament’s employees. Thank you for your support and we further rely on the expertise of our Romanian colleagues for deepening political and economic association between Moldova and the European Union, "said the speaker.
Other topics on the meeting’s agenda were focused on cooperation between Moldova and Romania in the roads infrastructure and energy security areas. Romania's Prime Minister Victor Ponta reiterated the Romanian authorities’ commitment to continue the initiated joint projects and willingness to expand areas of cooperation, including in terms of advancing discussions on the construction of a highway between Moldova and Romania.
Andrian Candu noted the increasing development of economic relations between the two countries, especially in 2014 when Romania became the main trading partner of Moldova. "We count on the support of Romanian authorities to further maintain the trend of growth of trade between Moldova and Romania," said the parliament speaker.
Andrian Candu also touched upon the importance of extending the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline construction to Chisinau. He appealed to business people from Romania to increase investments in strategic areas for Moldova.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu is on an official visit to Romania on 25 - 26 March.
