Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union should make greater efforts to help Eastern Partnership member states implement the Association Agreements. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics made statements to this effect at meeting with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat in Chisinau today.
According to a press release by PLDM, the discussions were focused on topics related to the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit due in Riga, the regional situation, security problems and the implementation of the Association Agreement between Moldova and EU.
The Latvian Foreign Minister noted Moldova’s progress in the European integration process and stressed that the implementation of the Association Agreement was not the final point in the relationship between Moldova and the EU.
Vlad Filat said the Riga meeting would be a significant step in strengthening the Moldova-EU relationship. "Our country has great expectations from this summit, more specifically the recognition of Moldova's clear European prospect. Once the Association Agreement implemented and the reforms advanced, we hope to take the next step - apply for getting the status of candidate country for membership," said Vlad Filat.
