Moldovan defence minister, Turkish ambassador discus military partnership

Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - Defence Minister Viorel Cibotaru met Turkish Ambassador to Moldova Mehmet Selim Kartal to discuss the evolution of bilateral military relations between Moldova and Turkey today.
The Moldovan defence minister appreciated Turkey’s contribution in training the National Army soldiers in more departments, especially in the Military Academy and Peacekeeping Operations Training Centre in Ankara. In recent years about 140 Moldovan officers and non-commissioned officers studied at these educational institutions, many of whom are currently working within various international missions.
For his part, the Turkish ambassador called for an effective partnership with Moldova and the identification of cooperation segments in the military field. The sides exchanged views on the regional situation, the priorities of the Defence Ministry and the Moldovan-Turkish cooperation in the field of security and defence.
Diplomatic relations between Moldova and Turkey were established in 1993.
