PM meets new head of IMF Mission to Moldova

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today met members of a new team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Moldova, due to be led by Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, starting from next May. Attending the event were experts of the IMF mission, led by Max Alier, who ends his mandate in Chisinau, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The premier welcomed Vladkova-Hollar in Moldova, expressing confidence that the dialogue between Moldova and IMF would be as efficient as it had been so far. At the same time, Gaburici thanked Alier for the work carried out in Moldova during his mandate.
"We are interested in strengthening the constructive relations and negotiating a new cooperation agreement with IMF as soon as possible, in order to ensure financial stability and sustainable economic development of Moldova", the premier said.
Max Alier noted that, on 30 March-3 April, his team would analyze the macroeconomic evolution of Moldova and present conclusions and recommendations, in order to set the cooperation goals for the next period. The IMF official pointed out that the experts would hold negotiations with representatives of the Finance Ministry, National Bank of Moldova and other public and private institutions.
The sides exchanged opinions on the development of the situation in the financial and banking sector of Moldova, including in the context of measures due to be taken to overcome the most recent problems in this sector.
The last mission of IMF experts, which took place on 25 September-7 October 2014, considered the situation in Moldova, in the context of post-programme monitoring and periodical consultations. This is a mandatory exercise, carried out quarterly, according to the requirements seen in the IMF Statute for the member states.
