Chisinau, 31 March /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov today asked the Tiraspol-based administration to suspend the enforcement of the requirement, illegally imposed on motorists from Moldova, to purchase mandatory insurances of civil liability of vehicle owners, upon entry in Transnistria, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
MOLDPRES said this was a unilateral action on behalf of the Transnistrian side, and was imposed on transport means registered in Moldova starting from 1 April 2015. The insurances has been already applied on Romanian vehicles starting from 1 March, and will affect drivers of cars registered in Ukraine and other countries in the coming months.
A letter sent today to Tiraspol's political representative says this measure was adopted without being discussed with partners, runs counter the principles and procedures of the five-plus-two negotiations and the fundamental documents on the Transnistrian conflict settlement negotiations.
In this context, Victor Osipov proposed the Transnistrian leadership to postpone the implementation of this mechanism, which affected the citizens' interests, as well as commitments of the sides to ensure freedom of movement between the two banks of Dniester. The deputy prime minister asked the Tiraspol-based authorities to realise the damage they caused through these unilateral actions and continue considering the issue within negotiations.
