Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/ - Sergiu Lucinschi, son of former Moldovan President Petru Lucinschi, will be investigated under judicial control for a period of 60 days in a file in which he is accused of blackmail and influence peddling. The High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania rejected the National Anticorruption Directorate’s (DNA) request to remand in custody Sergiu Lucinschi.

On the period under judicial control, Sergiu Lucinschi must respect the following obligations: "to come to the criminal investigation authority, to preliminary court judge or to the court whenever called; to inform about changing the dwelling; to come to the Police of Voluntari town, Ilfov county, according to the supervision programme; not to leave Romania, except with the consent of the judicial body; no to get in touch with other co-defendants in the file, as well as suspects, informers, persons who are witnesses or experts in the file opened by DNA".

Sergiu Lucinschi was arrested on the night of 30 March by DNA prosecutors "for blackmail and influence peddling." A police officer at the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), Constantin Comaneanu, was also arrested in the case.

"In December 2014 — March 2015, the accused Lucinschi Sergiu, benefiting from aiding and binning of other persons, exercised constraints on a business man, in order to determine him to give him a total amount of four million euros, not owed by the latter, to withdraw a criminal petition," DNA says.
