Chisinau, 1 April /MOLDPRES/ - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide Moldova with 10 million euros each to implement a project on water supply in the northern region. The government passed the draft laws on ratification of the concerned financing agreements today.
The project’s main goal is to strengthen the viability of a regional operator to improve the level of water supply services. Environment Ministry Sergiu Palihovici has said that seven towns from northern Moldova, namely Soroca, Balti, Floresti, Drochia, Riscani, Singerei and Telenesti, had voiced intention to participate in setting up an association for developing water supply services.
Under the project, emphasis will be put on modernising the Soroca-Balti aqueduct. As a result, about 400,000 citizens will have access to a safe drinking water source.
To implement the project, Moldova will also benefit from a 10-million-euro-worth grant provided by EU.
