Parliament ratifies financing contract for Moldova's Orchard project

Chisinau, 2 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today ratified a financing contract between Moldova and the European Investment Bank on the implementation of Moldova’s Orchard project. The contract sees that Moldova will receive a loan of 120 million euros for the development of the horticultural sector.

Among the objectives of Moldova’s Orchard project , there are equipping orchards with irrigation and anti-hail systems, technologisation of the postharvest processes of horticultural production, developing nurseries for producing planting material.

According to Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Ion Sula, approximately 300 economic agents and 50,000 peasant farms operating in the horticulture sector will be among the beneficiaries of the project.

The project will be implemented during five years. Statistics show that the value of exports in horticultural products has increased 4.3-fold over the past ten years.
