Moldovan government speaks out for starting negotiations on new cooperation programme with IMF

Chisinau, 3 April /MOLDPRES/-The Moldovan government opts for initiating negotiations on a cooperation programme with International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici made a statement to this effect at a today’s meeting with IMF representatives. The prime minister handed to IMF Mission Head Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar a letter addressed to the director of IMF’s European Department Poul Thomsen, which comprised the Moldovan government’s intention to start negotiations on a new cooperation programme with IMF, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
“To consolidate macroeconomic stability, to continue structural reforms and diminish the negative impact of foreign factors on the country’s economic development, we respectfully request initiation of negotiations on a new assistance programme and invite the IMF mission to visit Chisinau in the nearest future, in order to discuss a new programme”, the letter says.
Gaburici highlighted the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation and expressed Moldovan authorities’ interest in an efficient cooperation with external partners, including with IMF experts in order to speed up reforms meant to improve Moldovan residents' living standards.
For his part, Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar pointed out that the talks held with representatives of the Finance Ministry, Economics Ministry and other institutions this week had been useful. The Fund's official said that an analysis and setting priorities for the mission's further work were to be carried out. The official expressed confidence that the dialogue between IMF and Moldova would further be open, constructive and efficient.
