Chisinau, 3 April /MOLDPRES/ - The local general elections will take place on 14 June 2015. The parliament approved a decision to this effect today.
The bill’s authors said that, when setting the date, the day when the previous local elections were held (5 June 2011) was taken as reference point. Thus, the electoral campaign for local elections is to start after the Easter holidays.
Under the legislation in force, the date of local general elections is set by parliament decision 60 days before the elections at the latest.
The Electoral Code stipulates that mayors and councillors are elected by universal, equal, direct, secret and free ballot for a four-year mandate.
