Five Moldovan law enforcers sentenced for imprisonment following 7 April 2009 riots

Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - A former interior minister, Gheorghe Papuc, and four policemen were sentenced for imprisonment in the wake of the 7 April 2009 riots, which resulted in the devastation of the parliament and presidency buildings.
Data by the Prosecutor General's Office shows that, following the April 2009 events, 71 criminal files were opened against law enforcers. Forty seven of them were finalised and sent to court.Only five policemen were convicted after the files had been considered, with other cases dragged.
The cases of the former deputy commissioner of the Chisinau municipality, Iacob Gumenita, and the former head of the public order department at the capital's Police Station, Petru Corduneanu, are still under trial.
Also, 13 participants in the April 2009 riots were punished under the criminal law for robbery and mass disorder.
