Moldovan parliament members to get acquainted with European practices

14:57 | 09.04.2015 Category: Political

Chisinau, 9 April /MOLDPRES/ - European experts will be present in the parliament to help Moldovan civil servants familiarise themselves with European practices. The head of the Parliamentary Committee of Association with Moldova, MEP Andi Cristea made statements to this effect at a press conference today.

Cristea said the action was part of a larger project of the European Parliament to increase the administrative and democratic capacity of the Moldovan parliament.

"The European Parliament is the institution with the highest level of political ambition in terms of Moldova's European perspective. The signing of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement is not the end of a process, but only the end of a stage preceding the accession to the EU", said Cristea.

MEPs also referred to Moldova’s progress report for 2015, noting that whether Moldova would continue to remain a “success story” depended only on the Chisinau-based authorities.

For his part, Moldova - EU Parliamentary Association Committee Vice-Chair Michal Boni said the process of European integration "is not just a political and economic one, but also social, and thus, a wider communication with society to explain European values is needed".

The today's conference was organised in the context of a visit to Chisinau by the leadership of the European Parliament delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee.
