Japan to provide Moldova with 980-thousand-dollar-worth grant for education

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - Japan is to provide Moldova with a grant of 980,000 dollars in order to improve sanitary conditions and develop the technical and material basis in schools. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Shigeki Sumi signed an agreement in this respect today.
Gaburici said that this money would be used to purchase equipment and products necessary for 1,040 schools.
“We are grateful to the Japanese government for this support and believe that the agreement signed today will be a step towards improving the situation in Moldovan schools,” Gaburici said.
For his part, Shigeki Sumi said that Japan backed stability and prosperity of Moldova and these might be gotten only by “investing in human resources”.
The Moldovan-Japanese diplomatic ties were set on 16 March 1992. Till 2014, the total amount of assistance provided by Japan to Moldova was of 92.8 million dollars (non-reimbursable asssistance) and 108.2 million dollars (loans).
