Japan to offer Moldova assistance to modernise schools

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - Japan will provide Moldova with 980,000 dollars to modernise education institutions. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and the Kiev-based Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Shigeki Sumi signed an agreement to this effect in Chisinau today, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The agreement between the Moldovan and Japanese governments stipulates the implementation of a grant programme in amount of 980,000 dollars, in order to carry out projects on modernisation of Moldovan schools.
„This programme will help us to improve sanitary conditions and to develop the technical and material basis of schools, by providing equipment and products to endow Moldovan institutions,” Chiril Gaburici said.
Gaburici highlighted the fact that, over the past time, the Moldovan-Japanese bilateral cooperation had a significant ascension and referred to decisions of the two governments to expand the diplomatic presence in Chisinau and Tokyo.
For his part, Shigeki Sumi confirmed Japan’s willingness to support initiatives that would contribute to modernise and promote modern, qualitative education, as well as Moldova’s prosperity and stability.
In 2010-2012, three similar projects in amount of 185,000 dollars were implemented in Moldova with the Japanese assistance. The mentioned projects contributed to improve the infrastructure of the school from Hirtopul Mare village, Criuleni district, of the No. 93 gymnasium from din Gratiesti and primary school from Lozova village, Straseni district. Presently, another 79-thousand-worth project is under way, the goal of which is to improve the educational and sanitary conditions in the school of the Ecaterinovca village, Cimislia district.
