Moldovan farmers organise new protest

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/ - Farmers today during one hour blocked more national highways with agricultural equipment, athus protesting against „the lack of actions undertaken by the authorities to solve problems in the agriculture.”
The head of UniAgroProtect Union of Agricultural Producers Associations, Alexandru Slusari, said over 1,000 farmers from all over Moldova came to the today protest.
„Even if, on 14 April, the police threatened us not to organise protests, today we had a somehow good cooperation with them," Slusari said.
At the same time, Slusari added that no authority came to them, so the protests would be continued in the near future.
Farmers also organised a protest on 27 March. They demanded that the government not increases the value added tax (VAT) from 8 to 20 per cent on agricultural products, and the agriculture subsidisation fund should be of at least 1.2 billion lei.
Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Ion Sula has recently said that the mentioned fund could not be changed, as there are not enough funds.
