Moldovan electoral body sets up constituencies for holding local elections

Chisinau, 17 April /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today approved a draft on the creation of 2nd level electoral constituencies for local elections, due on 14 June. There will be 37 constituencies.
Under the Election Code, CEC forms, at least 55 days before the elections, administrative election constituencies corresponding to the second-level administrative and territorial units from Moldova.
At a today meeting, CEC approved an amendment on providing the Balti and Bender municipalities with the status of second-level administrative and territorial units of Moldova.
To organise the 14 June elections, CEC foresaw expenses estimated at 98 million lei. Candidates for the Chisinau mayor office will be able to submit their files starting from 25 April, and the other contenders - by 10 days later.
