Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today pronounced a decision on a case vs Moldova and Russia on a 18-year-old Moldovan, shot dead by a Russian serviceman when crossing a bridge across the Dniester river in January 2012.
Justice Minister Vladimir Grosu made public the decision at a news conference today. Grosu said that, as to Moldova „ECHR reached the conclusion that the checkpoint, through which the young man passed during the tragedy, was under Russia’s military command and Moldova’s jurisdiction cannot be investigated in this case.”
“ECHR found out that it was about a violation of the right to life and the use of a fire gun was not justified. In this case, Russia is to pay 35,000 euros as moral prejudice and 5,000 euros as material damage to the young man’s family,” Grosu said.
On 1 January 2012, an 18-year-old young man from Pirita village, eastern Dubasari district, was shot dead by a serviceman of the peacekeeping forces in the Security Zone, at the crossing over the bridge across the Dniester, nearby the Vadul lui Voda town.
The serviceman shot into the car in which the young man was, as the latter ignored the traffic signs twice and refused to obey the order to stop.
