Moldovan parliament to adopt law on prosecution by late next July

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament will approve the draft of the law on Prosecution till the end of the present spring session. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made statements to this effect at the opening of an international conference titled: ”Reform of Prosecution in Moldova” today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The draft law on Prosecution, worked out in order to implement the Concept on Prosecution reform and adjusted based on the recommendations of the Venice Commission, was unveiled and discussed during the event. Justice Minister Vladimir Grosu, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, MPs, diplomats, representatives of development partners, civil society and academic environment participated in the debates.
Andrian Candu stressed that the society was waiting for the Prosecution’s reform, which was one of the most important elements of the justice reform. Candu added that the draft law on Prosecution had to reach the parliament as soon as possible; as there was political will to adopt it in final reading till late next July.
”There is a concept and a bill almost completed, there are also the opinions of the Venice Commission; therefore, it is the case not to waste time any longer and submit the draft law to the parliament, so as we manage to take all needed efforts, so that the bill be passed by the end of this parliamentary session. Probably, it is the case to cut off some administrative procedures, in order to speed up the process,” Candu said.
The draft Law on Prosecution is to be forwarded to the government for approval till late April and, subsequently, it will be presented to the parliament for debates and approval.
In the previous parliament, Andrian Candu was the head of the working group on Prosecution reform, - a structure set up to systematise, debate and give final touches to proposals on the draft concept on prosecution reform and work out initiatives to amend the legislation on Prosecution’s activity.
