Moldovan deputy premier meets OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities

Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman today met OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors, who is on a visit to Moldova, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's communication and media relations service has reported.
The officials discussed promoting the integration of national minorities in society, situation in Gagauzia and need to include autonomy in economic development and European integration, as well as situation in the Latin script schools from the Transnistrian region.
"Interethnic cohesion represents an indispensable condition of the political and social stability, and preserving cultural, linguistic and religious identity of national minorities is a priority for Moldovan authorities", Gherman said. In the context, she thanked Thors for the projects implemented in Moldova as regards linguistic training of national minorities.
For his part, Thors appreciated the productive discussion on the way his institution can back Moldovan authorities in implementing reforms in accordance with European standards, including regarding protection of rights of persons belonging to national minorities.
