Moldovan parliament to organise more events on State Flag Day

Chisinau, 23 April /MOLDPRES/ - Upon Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu’s initiative, the parliament will mark the State Flag Day, by a string of events titled: „The 25th anniversary of tricolour”, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The parliament’s solemn meeting will be held on 27 April, the day day Moldova marks the 25th anniversary of tricolour's designation as State Flag.
President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, former President Mircea Snegur, ministers, diplomats, MPs of the first parliament, representatives of the central public authorities and clergy were invited to the event. The author of the state coat of arms and national currency, Gheorghe Vrabie, will also attend the meeting.
At the same time, an exhibition of flags will be staged in the parliament’s hall on 27 – 30 April, at 14.00 – 16.00. The exhibits are owned by collector Petru Costin, whose works are included in the Guinness Records Book.
The presidential orchestra will give a musical recital on the square of the parliament on 27 April at 19.00, and then the Chisinau Youth Orchestra will perform at 20.00. A show of lights will take place for the first time ever. The parliament’s building will be lighted in tricolours.
„Worn in the hearts on the breast, the tricolour is a symbol of freedom and independence of Moldova. On 27 April, I urge you to respectfully honour our tricolour and give an example to the next generations about love towards the country and national symbols,” Andrian Candu said.
On 21-27 April, the parliament organises a contest of drawings of children and young people. The participants are pupils from different districts of Moldova, who present their works to the parliament’s territorial information offices from Orhei, Edinet, Leova and Comrat districts. The drawings will be exhibited in the hall of the parliament within an exhibition titled “My flag, my Moldova” on 30 April.
On 27 – 30 April, more excursions to the parliament will be organised for young people. The MPs will talk with visitors about their parliamentary activity and legislative process.
The State Flag Day was established on 23 April 2010. The tricolour was officialised as State Flag on 27 April 1990.
