Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov has met OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors, who paid a visit to Moldova, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
The officials exchanged opinions on the negotiation process, the last five-plus-two meeting for special consultations, held in Vienna, as well as the situation of the Moldova-run Latin-script schools from Transnistria.
Victor Osipov welcomed Astrid Thors’ visit and praised the constant cooperation between the Moldovan authorities and OSCE. Osipov also underlined Moldova’s interest in giving final touches to the process of creating a stable framework for the work of the Moldova-run schools of Transnistria. He stressed that, no matter the conflict, problems of status or other circumstances, everybody is responsible for observing the human, child’s and national minorities’ rights and nobody has any right to violate them.
Osipov informed about Moldovan authorities’ efforts to improve the dialogue with Tiraspol, which would allow transmitting the mentioned schools more assistance consignments, including the three buses for transporting children, provided by the Romanian government to Moldova.
For her part, Astrid Thors emphasised the need to maintain the active dialogue at the level of political representatives, as well as to optimise the activity of the working groups on education. Thors highlighted the importance of the policy on integration of ethnic minorities into the Moldovan society, which would enhance Moldova’s attractiveness and help re-establish and strengthen the country’s territorial integrity.
