PM says there is potential for developing information, communications technologies in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici met with Swedish company Ericsson Mediterranean Region Head Nunzio Mirtillo today morning. The Ericsson Company opened its first Ericsson South East Europe local network operations centre, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The prime minister congratulated them for this achievement, stressing that Moldova was open for investments in telecommunications and IT, as these areas were among the most promising ones. "We want fast high quality and quick service. In Moldova, there is potential for development of the information and communications technology sector. Moreover, through such investments, we are creating new jobs, that is a priority for the government," said Chiril Gaburici.

Ericsson representatives announced that this network management operations centre would provide various services ,through which operators could cut costs and improve the quality of services.

"Over the last years, Ericsson has expanded its activity to Moldova and we cooperate with more mobile telephony operators of the country. We are also involved in various projects funded by the EU, including data security and biometric passports. We have constantly invested in the development of our local activities and grew from only 7 employees to more than 80," said Nunzio Mirtillo.

Ericsson provides technology solutions and services and supports complex systems integration projects for leading telecom operators, the largest companies and the Moldovan government. In Chisinau, the first Ericsson office was opened in 1998. The Swedish company has customers in over 180 countries and supports networks that serve more than 2.5 billion subscribers. Ericsson networks support 40 per cent of the world's mobile traffic.
