Russian blogger sentenced to prison for participating in 7 April 2009 events in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 April /MOLDPRES/ - Russian citizen Eduard Bagirov was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. The sentence was pronounced today, after prosecutors had proved his guilt in participating in the mass riots from April 2009.
The verdict was established in absence of the defendant, who, on 19 October 2011 was registered on the wanted list, after he had left the place where he was to stay in home arrest.
According to prosecutors, Bagirov actively infiltrated the social environment as a “blogger”, “writer” in 2008-2009 and thus participated in the development and organisation of the provocative measures following the parliamentary elections from 5 April 2009.
According to his plan, these actions were to bear the character of a “revolution” and the consequences - assigned to opposition forces.
Six years after the April 2009 protests, the former interior minister, Gheorghe Papuc, and an ex-policeman, Ion Perju, accused of the death of a young man, were sentenced to prison;yet, they are on the wanted list now.
