Moldovan foreign minister, head of EU delegation to Moldova hold joint press conference

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Over 460,000 Moldovans, holding biometric passport have travelled to the European Union during one year, since Moldova has been benefitting from the liberalised visa regime. The information was made public today during a press conference by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman and Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola.
According to Gherman, visa liberalisation is a joint success of Moldova and the European Union, achieved by covering more stages.
"Moldova is the first and only country of the Eastern Partnership to benefit from the EU visa-free regime. We may consider ourselves a provider of best practices in the field of migration for countries to undergo the same process," said the minister.
For his part, Pirkka Tapiola said that this achievement was got thanks to concrete reforms that had been undertaken in recent years and that the EU continued to remain open towards Moldova.
Moldovan citizens, holders of biometric passports can travel to the Schengen area visa-free as of 28 April 2014.
So far, 1355 Moldovan citizens owning biometric passports have not been allowed to enter the European Union because of failing to meet the conditions for entering EU.
