Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/ - Farmers, at a today's news conference, informed that they would once again organise protests, by blocking all roads of entrance into Chisinau on 27 May, given "the lack of actions by authorities to settle problems in agriculture."
The agricultural producers said they were disappointed that "none of their previous requirements were met" following the protests they had organised on 27 March and 15 April.
In particular, farmers urged the government not to increase the value-added tax (VAT) on agricultural production from 8 to 20 per cent, and for the agriculture subsidy fund to amount to at least 1.2 billion lei.
"The situation in agriculture continues to worsen. Agricultural output prices remain unchanged and, in autumn, all farmers will be fully hit by the crisis. This protest is an act of desperation on behalf of the farmers", said UniAgroProtect Union of Agricultural Producers Associations President Alexandru Slusari.
Contacted by Moldpres, the head of the agriculture minister’s cabinet, Alexandru Tonu, said that the ministry would come up with a response to the farmers’ decision by the end of the day.
Previous protests mobilised more than 5,000 farmers, who took out about 3,500 units of agricultural equipment to footways.
