Moldovan speaker meets top European official

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met President of the European Council Donald Tusk today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The officials addressed the boosting of the cooperation ties between Moldova and the European Union, and implementation of the Association Agreement with EU.
The sides broached the priorities of Moldova’s agenda in relationship with Brussels, as well as the progress in implementation of the Association Agreement. Candu said that the authorities considered possibility that the Moldovan government unveils a progress report in the parliament on 2 July 2015, when Moldova is to mark the first anniversary of the ratification of the mentioned accord by the Moldovan parliament. At the same, Candu reiterated the authorities’ commitment to develop Moldova and emphasised the importance to speed up reforms, in order to enhance the welfare of citizens and advance Moldova on the European path.
Andrian Candu thanked Donald Tusk and the European Council for the support provided to Moldova in getting closer to the European Union.
The officials also exchanged opinions on the political situation in Moldova, social and economic developments and settling the crisis in the financial and banking sector. Candu highlighted that he wanted the situation to be cleared up as soon as possible and that the guilty people to be identified, including the assets to recovered.
At the same time, Andrian Candu assured Donald Tusk that he would insist on the inclusion of the draft law on Prosecution in the list of priorities of MPs as soon as possible and would admit no delay in this respect.
Also today, Moldova marks the first anniversary of the liberalisation of the visa regime with EU for Moldovans. Referring to progress recorded by Moldova to get the right to free movement in the European Union, the two officials highlighted that Moldova should further be exigent in order to manage to implement the Association and Free Trade Agreements equally successfully.
For his part, Donald Tusk assured that he would continue to support Moldova to get closer to the European Union.
