Moldovan holds leading position in top eastern partners to transpose EU directives into national law

Chisinau, 7 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Premier, Economics Minister Stephane Bride attended the first ministerial reunion of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries on trade held in Brussels today. Ministers from the six partner countries (Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus) and European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom attended the meeting.
According to sources from the Economics Ministry, the meeting’s objective concerned implementing the economic policy within the Eastern Partnership. In this context, participants discussed the opportunities and challenges on the commercial dimension, support that can be to be provided by EU member states to eastern partners in the process of carrying out economic reforms, modernisation and others.
In his speech, Stephane Bride highlighted the progress made by Moldova in implementing commitments under the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and stressed the need to further support the Moldovan authorities in this regard.
"Moldova remains firmly anchored on its European path, because this is the only option for a sustainable economic development and closer political association with the EU. Our country is the absolute leader among Eastern partners in terms of the number of EU directives transposed into national law in the field of market surveillance as well as to meeting EU institutional requirements", said the deputy prime minister.
The participants in the meeting opted to continue assistance to implement reform agendas, consolidate public institutional capacities within the Association Agenda, and strengthen the business environment dimension of the Eastern Partnership by providing support in evaluating and implementing effective and sustainable policies for small and medium enterprises and others.
Furthermore, at the reunion, representatives of member countries highly praised the preliminary results of the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) in Moldova and encouraged its implementation according to the set agenda. At the same time, the participants agreed to further encourage and promote economic cooperation as well as turning into account the investment potential existing between the EaP countries.
