Chisinau, 8 May /MOLDPRES/- The commission for European affairs and the commission on foreign affairs of Lithuania considers that EU should provide a European accession perspective for Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine within the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, "in order to reconfirm the support given to the three countries". The statement is contained in a declaration signed by the commissions of Lithuanian Sejm (parliament).
According to the declaration, the two commissions launched an appeal to the EU heads of state and government to establish in the declaration of the Riga Summit that "the association agreements signed between EU and Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, represent the most efficient measures for backing these countries in strengthening political and economic stability and enhancing their resistance to threats from outside."
At the same time, Lithuania asked the EU parliaments to speed up ratification of association agreements of EU with Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, if they have not done it as yet.
The Riga Eastern Partnership Summit will be held on 21-22 May. Lithuania was the third EU member country to ratify the Moldova-EU Association Agreement on 8 July.
