World Bank awards prize to Moldovan education minister

Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/- Education Minister Maia Sandu on 12 May was awarded for Leadership in Social Accountability for Europe and Central Asia, provided by the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) - an initiative by the World Bank. The awarding ceremony took place in Washington DC.
According to the Education Ministry, the prize "was offered as a token of recognition of assuming a rational and systemic approach in efforts to improve the quality of education."
"Under the new recently adopted Education Code, the policy of Minister Maia Sandu is characterized by imposing strict anti-cheating rules during the baccalaureate exams, for which she has become national hero for many supporters of the society. Sandu promotes involvement and participation of NGOs and citizens in debates on education, encouraging their role in monitoring the quality of education services," according to a communique by the World Bank.
Seven regional leaders, representatives of governments and civil society organisations were awarded at the event.
