Speaker thanks Moldovan women for courage, ambition

Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu participated in an event dedicated to the International Mother's Day on 13 May, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
The event, organised by the Women's Entrepreneurship Association in Moldova in concert with the Community of Ukrainian Women of Moldova, brought together representatives of public authorities, as well as diplomatic staff accredited to Chisinau, national minorities and civil society.
Candu spoke with admiration and respect about women's role in society in front of over 200 women attending the event.
The speaker expressed appreciation and gratitude to all women, who manage to cleverly combine important things from their life and be at the same time devoted mothers, loving wives and successful women in different fields of political and social-cultural life.
"Today, we mark the International Mother's Day, thanksgiving to the mother, woman, a celebration that will be rooted in Moldova", Candu said. He appreciated the increasing number of successful women from the country, including in political activity. "Ladies in parliament are even special, as one can trust that a mission will be always taken to the end", the speaker added.
The speaker encouraged the women to be assiduous and continue to do what they know best. "Educate children, keep family, develop businesses and contribute to the country's development", he said.
Candu also noted he would talk to colleagues from parliament about the initiative to set the International Mother's Day in the official holiday calendar marked in Moldova.
The International Mother's Day, initially appeared in the United States, is officially celebrated at international level on the second Sunday of May, including in the EU member states, Ukraine and Baltic countries. In Moldova, the holiday is marked since 2007 by a string of events organised at the initiative of the Community of Ukrainian Women of Moldova, headed by Valentina Moraru.
