Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today ratified an agreement on contribution between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the country's participation in the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership Fund.
The accord's goal is to enhance the energy efficiency, especially of the enterprises of the municipal sector, increase accessibility of the services provided by them and cut Co2 emissions.
Under the draft, Moldova is to pay a one-million-euros-worth contribution to the Fund for 2015-2018. The first installment of this sum, amounting to 100,000 euros, will be paid in a one-month term after the entrance into force of the agreement ratified by the parliament today.
At the parliament meeting, Deputy Economics Minister Tudor Copaci said that Moldova might benefit from 10-20 million euros from the Fund in grants, and contribute with only one million euros.
The Regional Fund of the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership represents a fund with a capital worth about 93 million euros, initiated by the government of Sweden, in concert with international financial institutions, in 2009.
