Moldovan foreign minister, EU commissioner tackle Association Agreement

Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman met European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn on 14 May, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s communication and media relations service has reported.

Commissioner Hahn welcomed the maintenance of a positive dynamic of the Moldova-EU political dialogue and stage of implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement,. he stressed the importance of continuing the implementation of reforms agenda assumed by Moldova. As for the Eastern Partnership Summit due in Riga, the sides tackled the need of a differentiated approach, based on individual performances of each state. Also, the officials exchanged opinions on the Transnistrian conflict settlement, opting for unconditionally continuing the five-plus-two negotiations.

In her tenure of acting chairwoman of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Natalia Gherman informed the European official about Moldova’s agenda for the period of holding the presidency within the organization (1 January-30 June 2015). She described the goal of strengthening the dialogue between BSEC and EU as a priority.

For his part, Johannes Hahn welcomed the intentions of the Moldovan presidency, aimed at bolstering the interaction between the two international organizations. He highlighted the EU interest in a continuous dialogue and identifying concrete projects of common interest.

At the end of the meeting, Natalia Gherman invited the European official to a meeting of the council of foreign ministers from the BSEC member states, due in Chisinau on 18 June.
