Moldovan, European officials tackle cooperation, Transnistrian conflict, support

Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov today met a delegation of co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Lise Christoffersen, Piotr Wach, Sylvie Affholder, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.

Victor Osipov welcomed the co-rapporteurs’ fact-collecting visit to Moldova and praised the level cooperation between Moldova and the Council of Europe, especially at parliamentary level.

The officials broached the present situation in settling the Transnistrian conflict. Osipov presented the developments of the past months, actuation at the level of Moldovan and Transnistrian negotiators, constructive potential within the working groups on confidence building measures, as well as negative trends taking place at the same time. 

Victor Osipov requested PACE to pay increased attention to situation in terms of human rights in the Transnistrian region and stressed the case of journalist Sergey Ilchenko, illegally detained by the Transnistrian power-wielding forces, based on political charges. At the same time, Osipov highlighted that the Moldovan authorities were undertaking sustained efforts to find systemic solutions, including in terms of legislation, to problems which arise during talks and in interaction between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

Osipov underscored the role of international partners and importance of their support provided to Moldova, including to reintegrate Moldova, as well as to strengthen democratic institutions and rule of law state in Moldova.
