Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today requested the appointment of the head of General Inspectorate of Police (IGP) by public contest. Under legislation, the Interior Minister has to propose to the government a candidate for the office of IGP head, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
"We have no head two months, and this situation is not normal. The legislation says that the IGP head must be proposed by the Interior Minister, but the mechanism for his selection is not stipulated. Therefore, I want to make a public and transparent contest to select a candidate for this position. In this context, I ask that the next two weeks, the basic criteria on the matter should be set and published on the IGP website", he said. The premier proposed that the candidates' interviews should be broadcast on-line.
At the same time, the premier asked to be created a commission of contest for the office, including a representative from the parliament, presidency, civil society, development partners. For one month, we have to have a clear candidate for the position", he concluded.
At the beginning of the meeting, the premier also asked the Interior Ministry to verify information saying that the deputy head of IGP would be moved with false registration plates. "Yesterday, information, saying that the deputy head of IGP is moving with a car with false registration plates, appeared in media. I ask you to initiate an investigation to this end. If the information is confirmed, the person who violated the law should be punished", he said.
