Moldovan government willing to ensure protection of local information space from propaganda

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet today approved a draft law on completing the Audiovisual Code. The supplements are aimed at ensuring protection of local information space from foreign manipulation and propaganda, as well as strengthening monitoring duties of the Audiovisual Coordination Council (CCA), the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The draft law on completion of the Audiovisual Code can be conceptually supported, in order to increase broadcasting the programmes in the state language.
The new completions to the code sees gradual sanctions to violation of norms, by applying fines from 30,000 to 50,000 lei, suspending broadcasting license for a 30-day period and withdrawal of broadcasting license.
Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici asked that public debates should be organised with the participation of representatives of local, regional televisions, Moldova 1 public television, as well as public television from Gagauzia, in order to exclude the possible divergences with status and regulations of the institutions.
Moldova ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television on 19 December 2002.
