Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union will provide grants worth 200 million euros annually during ten years, in order to support small- and medium-sized enterprises from Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. A decision on the matter was taken at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga today.
„The European Commission promised concrete measures, in order to boost trade and economic exchanges between EU and our eastern partners. These 2 billion euros is an investment into the economies of these countries to become more competitive and an investment into the local companies, which will create more jobs for the residents" President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said.
„The small enterprises are vital for modern economies, as they represent the main factor of economic growth and job creation. The provided financial support represents a concrete example of EU’s commitment towards the Eastern Partnership,” Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said.
The money will be provided and monitored by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Investment Bank.
