More Moldovan state institutions to be subject to investigation on situation in banking system

Chisinau, 25 May /MOLDPRES/- The Prosecutor General's Office is to make searches at more state institutions as to the fulfillment or non-fulfillment of job duties, which led to frauds at Banca de Economii (Savings Banks), Unibank and Banca Sociala (Social Bank). Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin provided more details at a press conference today.
Gurin said that the prosecutors were to investigate the activity ,during the frauds at the banks, of the Agency for Public Property, National Bank of Moldova, National Committee on Financial Stability, National Committee on Financial Market, decision-makers of the government, parliament, Finance Ministry, Economics Ministry and other central authorities, state representatives at BEM in various periods.
"The institutions will be investigated under the aspect of fraudulent management of the state property, loss of state control over BEM, non-intervention of institutions according to the legal duties as to ceasing the injurious management of the bank and prompt improvement of the critical situation in the banking system," he said.
Gurin noted that acts would be raised during searches, hearings ,special actions of investigations would be carried out, and the evolution of the inquiry would be made public, as far as possible.
On 24 May, BEM's former head Grigore Gacikevici received a warrant of 30-day arrest in isolation ward.
