EU to provide funds to Moldova to develop quality infrastructure

Chisinau, 26 May /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union will provide 1.1 million euros to develop quality infrastructure and facilitate access of Moldovan goods to the EU market. The assistance will be offered within a twinning project titled” „Strengthening of standards and metrology sector according to the best practices in the EU member states,” launched in Chisinau today.
„In the context of implementation of the Moldova-EU Free Trade Agreement, the development of quality infrastructure, by strengthening capacities of the National Standardization Institute and National Metrology Institute, represents an important step in ensuring access of Moldovan goods to the European market,” Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Stephane Bride said.
For his part, Head of EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that the European Union would continue providing assistance to Moldova, in order that the Moldovan products achieve the European quality standards, so that they become competitive both on the EU market and international ones.
European experts of the National Metrology Institute of Germany, Romanian Bureau of Legal Metrology, German Institute for Standardization and Romanian Standards Association will provide consultancy to Moldovan institutions in charge of ensuring quality infrastructure.
The aforementioned project has a budget of 1.1 million euros and is to be implemented for two years. The project is financed by EU and will be enforced by a German and Romanian consortium.
