Chisinau, 28 May /MOLDPRES/- The construction of the new border crossing point, Palanca, started within a public event organised in Palanca village, south-eastern Stefan Voda district, on 27 May.
According to the Border Police, the new border checkpoint will provide friendly and transparent conditions for facilitating the commerce, flow of passengers and freight.
The construction project will be carried out in 2015-2018, with a budget worth 5 million euros, funded by the EU, Moldovan government and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Attending the event, EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that "the EU assistance to Moldova for the joint border checkpoint Palanca will allow to speed up the traffic, optimize services while crossing the border and improve cooperation between the Moldovan-Ukrainian border institutions".
Presently, under the intergovernmental agreements, joint control is applied at some crossing points, such as: Giurgiuleşti-Reni, Criva-Mamaliga, Larga-Kelmenti and Briceni-Rososeni, and an analogical system will be functional at the Palanca-Mayaki-Udobnoye checkpoint as well.
