Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Election Commission (CEC) has suspended the websites managed by the institution (www.cec.md, www.voteaza.md, www.alegator.md) starting today, 30 May, 14:00. The web pages were suspended due to the unannounced check initiated by the National Centre for Personal Data Protection, according to a press release by the institution.
"Due to undergoing an unannounced check, initiated by the National Centre for Personal Data Protection and examining the objections raised by its inspectors, the Commission decides to indefinitely suspend the activity of the web pages administered by the institution (www.cec.md , www.voteaza.md, www.alegator.md)", reads the CEC statement.
CEC announced that it would examine the withdrawal procedure of the electoral lists displayed in all approximately 2,000 polling stations where voters would be able to verify the lists over the following days. The examination will end on Election Day. The commission explained the actions on the grounds that they contained personal data and their opening to the public was strictly guarded by the National Centre for Personal Data Protection.
"CEC declares it was and still remained a professional, upstanding, open and transparent institution, which opted for proper communication and public information on all aspects regarding the activity in compliance with all internal laws of Moldova”, reads the press release.
