Moldovan MPs attend conference on elections-related issues in France

Chisinau, 4 June /MOLDPRES/ - A group of Moldovan MPs participate in a parliamentary conference titled “Implementation of the right to free elections in Eastern Partnership countries”, held in Paris on 4 - 5 June, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The delegation is made up of Deputy Parliament Speaker, the head of the Moldovan parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), MP Liliana Palihovici, lawmaker Bogdan Tirdea, MP Igor Vremea.
The event is organised by the Council of Europe (CoE) within the EU-CoE Common Eastern Partnership Programme, in cooperation with the French National Assembly and Venice Commission, and brings together participants from the six Eastern Partnership beneficiary states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The conference’s goal is to present CoE standards for democratic elections and monitoring mechanisms in the area, as well as the best practices in elections. The participants will also consider possibility to improve the national legislation and electoral practice as to certain aspects identified during PACE observation missions.
Attending the event are French Secretary of State for European Affairs Harlem Desir, PACE Vice President, Head of the French delegation to PACE Rene Rouqet, President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Michael Georg Link.
The participants will hold talks with representatives of electoral administrations, NGOs involved in polls, as well as with experts of the Venice Commission, Council of Europe and other relevant international organisations.
