World Bank to extend financing to restore local roads in Moldova

Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/- The World Bank (WB) will extend financing for a project on restoration of local roads in Moldova from 55 million dollars to 80 million dollars. The WB team leader for the programme in transport sector from Moldova, Simon Ellis, said.
Simon Ellis appreciated that progress had been made in preparing project on local roads, and voiced confidence that it would be given the final touches as soon as possible.
Representatives of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced intention to support the programme on improving the local roads, at a today's meeting with Transport and Road Infrastructure Minister Vasile Botnari.
"We are willing to join the programme underway on local roads. We will assess the needs and will come up with proposals in this respect", EIB representative Cristian Barbu said.
For his part, Botnari welcomed the financiers' openness for extending investments in roads sector, pointing out that the works would contribute to a quicker economic development of regions.
