Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldovan delegation's proposals were rejected by the Transnistrian side at an ordinary meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) on 4 June, the Bureau for Reintegration has reported.
A press release by the Bureau says that since a malfunction in the work of the peacekeeping mechanisms has been recently revealed, the Moldovan delegation initiated an extraordinary meeting of the JCC. The purpose of the special session was to identify the needed solutions to overcome blockages and ensure the work of the peacekeeping mechanisms in the region.
The sides discussed organisational issues related to the current work of JCC and the Joint Military Command, as well as the Moldovan delegation’s proposals on making more changes to the Regulation to adjust the latter to the JCC practices. These initiatives would allow settling the problems that may arise in conducting the peacekeeping operation.
The Moldovan delegation's proposals were backed by the representatives of Ukraine. The Russian component advocated finding a solution due to be mutually agreed on by both the Moldovan and the Transnistrian side. The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission supported Russia’s view. The Transnistrian delegation categorically rejected the initiatives of the Moldovan delegation, thus blocking the works of the Commission.
"To overcome the blockage, the Russian representative proposed extending discussions at the level of co-chairs (Russia, Moldova, Transnistria), with the participation of Ukraine and OSCE. The proposal was repeatedly turned down by the co-chairman of the Transnistrian component," says the press release by the Bureau for Reintegration.
Given the failure to reach consensus, the meeting was postponed for the next week.
