Unit specialised in combating high-level corruption launched in Moldova

Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici today participated in the launch of the National Anticorruption Centre's (CNA) subdivision, due to fight the high-level corruption. The new unit was set up at the initiative by the prime minister and is part of the anti-corruption measures announced by Chiril Gaburici, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
"The launch the special unit is one of my initiatives of fighting corruption. This unit will deal, first of all, with the heads of the institutions and will focus on corruption cases with inflicted damage exceeding one million lei," emphasised the prime minister.
Thus, the new subdivision will investigate the unlawful activity of high-ranking civil servants or cases when damage to the state exceeds one million lei. Another task will be to identify and recover property and assets accumulated by civil servants in the wake of corruption activities. According to the CNA Head Viorel Chetraru, this assignment is a novelty for Moldova.
The special unit team was introduced following the working meeting of the cabinet of ministers. "I held the operative meeting, which takes place every Monday. Today, its subject was fighting corruption. On Saturday, 6 June, we marked the 13th anniversary of work of the National Anticorruption Centre and we ruled to hold the meeting here," explained Chiril Gaburici.
At the meeting, the CNA head unveiled the situation regarding corruption, as well as the situation in the banking sector. The cabinet members discussed the anti-corruption measures due to be implemented to combat the corruption phenomenon at all levels and the actions to be taken to stabilize the situation in the banking system.
Afterwards, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and the cabinet members visited the CNA insulator and familiarized themselves with the conditions under which suspects and persons accused of corruption are detained. Also, the officials saw how the polygraph works and discussed with the experts conducting polygraph tests.
Also today, Prime Minister Gaburici Chiril congratulated CNA employees on the 13th anniversary of the institution. The prime minister awarded the third degree government diploma to five anti-corruption officers.
