Moldovan president meets Belgian envoy

Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti received the Bucharest Based Belgian Ambassador to Moldova Philippe Beke, as he ends his mandate, the presidential press service has reported.
Timofti stressed the importance of the Moldovan-Belgian ties at economic and social and political levels. „You supported the policy of the European Union in this region and the signing of the Moldova-European Union Association and Free Trade Agreements is inclusively due to Belgium and our bilateral ties,” Timofti said.
For his part, Philippe Beke said that Belgium backed Moldova’s European path and reforms in the judicial system. „Together with European Commissioner Karel De Gucht, we worked a lot so that the signing of the Association Agreement to take place as soon as possible”.
The officials also approached the Moldovan-Belgian cooperation in the area of internal affairs.
Forty four Moldovan-Belgian companies are registered in Moldova. Since 2012, Moldova has been the first ex-Soviet state which signed an agreement on social security with Belgium.
