OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission to monitor local elections in Moldova

Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met the Head of the Election Observation mission of OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Kimmo Kiljunen, the parliament's communication and media relations department has reported.
The mission, made up of 12 representatives from 11 states, is in Moldova to monitor the local elections, due on 14 June.
The main issues were focused on the domestic situation before the elections, citizens' expectations and regional context.
Candu and Kiljunen tackled the organisation and development of local elections. In the context, Candu assured that the authorities took every effort to ensure free and fair elections, by respecting national legislation and international standards in the field.
The officials also approached continuing Moldova's European integration and country's modernisation.
"The most important thing is to keep Moldova together and united society, to advance in European integration path and to speed up reforms. Citizens want a better life and expect wise decisions from political establishment, therefore, the time is ripe for radical changes", he said.
For his part, Kiljunen announced that the mission would made public preliminary report the day after the election.
