Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ -The leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Filat and, respectively, Marian Lupu, say that Banca de Economii (Savings Bank, BEM) should continue its activity and be nationalized. The two officials made statements to this effect after a meeting of the ruling coalition’s council today.
Vlad Filat said that, despite present speculations, the concerned decision was accepted both by the Alliance’s leaders and Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, who has previously spoke out for BEM 's liquidation.
„We will take all necessary actions, so that BEM continues its activity, we want speeding up of investigations on frauds in the banking system, punishment of the guilty and return of money to the banks,” Filat said.
For his part, Marian Lupu reasoned his position by that, once the functionality of the bank ensured, the investigations of frauds could be carried through and the jobs would be preserved.
Vlad Filat said that the final decision was to be taken by the National Bank of Moldova.
Also today, the PLDM and PDM leaders said that, after the local elections, negations on setting up a parliamentary majority would be hold with parties from the parliament.
