Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition titled "Problems of divided society mirrored in caricature," organised by the German embassy in Moldova, was opened at the National Library today.

The caricatures were drawn at a creation workshop, made with the participation of students of the Fine Arts Faculty at the Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Academy.

Attending the event, Ambassador of Germany to Moldova, Her Excellency Ulrike Knotz said, inter alia, that caricature was "art of laugh." According to the diplomat, if the caricature is a success,  it makes the onlookers may be not better people, but more critical, self-critical, creative and sovereign, more capable to productively approach conflicts.

"I have noticed that, in political debates, and there are a lot of them here, the ethnic and linguistic diversity of the country are perceived as a burden. In fact, this diversity, in reality, represents a wealth, a potential that should be approached intelligently and used for the good of everybody. I am happy for the fact that our project has yielded so many interesting and suggestive results," Ulrike Knotz said.

Immediately after the exhibition's inauguration, the German embassy in Chisinau organised a roundtable in which civil society representatives participated. The goal of the discussion was to unveil the lifestyle of the people in a society in which more languages are spoken, the dialogue between society members, cooperation between them, as well as the fact that the linguistic diversity represents an advantage and a wealth in Moldova.
